Under the data protection laws we are no longer able to hand out any prescription to family member or friends without the patients prior consent. If you wish for others to collect prescriptions on your behalf please complete complete the Third party consent form and return to the surgery.  

NEW : You can now order your repeat prescriptions by using your smart phone

   (currently only android and mac devices)

 

To access SystmOnline, you will require a username and password, which can be obtained by contacting the surgery or speaking to a receptionist. You can also request medication via the NHS APP.

Repeat Prescriptions

Prescriptions may be collected from surgery but please do not send children to collect them as we cannot give prescriptions to anyone under the age of 16.

Repeat prescriptions may be requested by using one of the following methods:

• Click the link at the top of this page to use our  SystmOnline repeat prescriptions ordering system. It's easier and simpler to do.
• Return your order slip to the surgery by post. You can enclose a stamped addressed envelope if you would like us to return it to you, please provide an envelope measuring 9 inches x 6 inches. This will still be covered by first class postage.
• E-Mail request to nccg.prescriptions.woodviewmedicalcentre@nhs.net.
• Bring your prescription request into the surgery and post it in the red box in reception.

PLEASE ALLOW THREE FULL WORKING DAYS (72HOURS) EXCLUDING WEEKENDS AND BANK HOLIDAYS FOR THE DOCTOR TO CHECK YOUR MEDICATION IS STILL SAFE FOR YOU TO TAKE AND ISSUE YOUR PRESCRIPTION

FROM 12th NOVEMBER YOU CAN NO LONGER ORDER YOUR PRESCRIPTIONS VIA THE PHARMACY.

Script collection times if requested on:

If requested Monday before 11:00am, prescription will be available after 5:00pm on Thursday

If requested Tuesday before 11:00am, prescription will be available after 5:00pm on Friday

If requested Wednesday before 11:00am, prescription will be available after 5:00pm on Monday

If requested Thursday before 11:00am, prescription will be available after 5:00pm on Tuesday

If requested Friday before 11:00am, prescription will be available after 5:00pm on Wednesday

Please make sure you give your full name and date of birth as well as the medication and dose you require and a contact telephone number in case we need to confirm any details.

Important Information

• Some patients have recently reported problems when changing Pharmacies.

•  Some Pharmacies cannot provide special medication or controlled drugs (Please check with your Pharmacy).

•  We do not and have never condoned nor recommended any Pharmacy. Every patient has freedom of choice which Pharmacy you use.

• If you wish to have your prescriptions posted you must provide a stamped addressed envelope. (We cannot accept responsibility for any postal delays or prescriptions lost in the post.) 

• It is the patient's responsibility for ordering his/her medication on time.

• All prescriptions can take up to 72 hours for the surgery to process and longer if you have nominated a Pharmacy (Please check with your nominated Pharmacy).

•  Please inform the Practice if you receive any medication that you have not ordered and do not need.

Changes to prescriptions for minor health conditions

Following an extensive public consultation exercise, NHS England (NHSE)  medicines which are available to buy in a pharmacy or supermarket (over the counter) will no longer be routinely prescribed for the following conditions:

NHS England has recommended medicines for minor ailments such as colds, hayfever & mild dry skin should no longer be routinely prescribed. Please purchase these over the counter in future. More info is available at www.nhs.uk/OTCmedicines

What are the benefits of using pharmacies?

• It prevents unnecessary GP appointments for common conditions.
• Access to pharmacies is easier and sometimes quicker than waiting for a GP appointment.
• Pharmacies are open out of hours, like late nights and at the weekend, which is convenient for people who work or when the GP practice is closed.

Why is it changing?

The NHS has been spending around £136 million a year on prescriptions for medicines that can be bought over the counter, such as paracetamol.

By reducing the amount it spends on OTC medicines, the NHS can give priority to treatments for people with more serious conditions, such as cancer, diabetes and mental health problems.

How your local pharmacy team can help you?

Pharmacists can give clinical advice and help you choose the most appropriate treatment. If your symptoms suggest it’s more serious, they’ll ensure you get the care you need. You can by over the counter medications for the common illnesses listed above.

What if my symptoms don’t improve?

Your local pharmacy team can tell you how long to expect the symptoms of your condition to last. If they haven’t improved after this time or you start to feel a lot worse, you should:

• Go back to the pharmacy for further advice
• Call NHS 111
• Contact your GP

Will there be any exceptions?

In some cases, you can still get prescriptions for medicines used to treat these conditions. You may still be prescribed a medicine for a condition on the list if:

• you need treatment for a long-term condition, for example regular pain relief for chronic arthritis or inflammatory bowel disease
• you need treatment for more complex forms of minor illnesses, for example migraines that are very bad and where OTC medicines do not work
• you need an OTC medicine to treat a side effect of a prescription medicine or symptom of another illness, such as constipation when taking certain painkillers
• the medicine has a licence that doesn't allow the product to be sold to certain groups of patients. This could include babies, children or women who are pregnant or breastfeeding
• the person prescribing thinks that a patient cannot treat themselves, for example because of mental health problems

Will probiotics, vitamins and minerals be prescribed?

GPs, nurses or pharmacists will also generally no longer prescribe probiotics and some vitamins and minerals. You can get these from eating a healthy, varied and balanced diet, or buy them at your pharmacy or supermarket.
